Short hair with a receding hairline?

I currently have long hair and I'm wanting to cut it all off in the next week or so. I guess you could say I have a receding hairline, I'm not sure if that's technically what it is, but my hairline on my forehead does go back a bit farther than most of the kids at school. I'm wondering if having all of my hair cut off will make me look ';weird';...I know I shouldn't care what others think, but I don't really want a haircut that makes my forehead look big. Have you ever seen someone with a shaved (not shaved to where there is only stubble, but just very short) and they had a receding hair line? Did it look alright?

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated...thanks for reading.Short hair with a receding hairline?
Many young guys think that a hairline that is too low to actually balance a face is the norm, and a hairline that approaches the classical ideal is receding or high. 1/3 of the vertical distance of the face forehead, 1/3 of the vertical distance of the face nose, 1/3 of the vertical distance of the face mouth and chin is the classical ideal. These are photos of guys with receding hairlines from college yearbooks of the late 1950's and early 1960's, when more than almost every other college guy or college prep HS guy wore an ivy league, crew cut or flat top crew cut and those who didn't wore short taper cuts. I just chose the first 8 photos in the file. If you want to see more I can e mail the links:

This answer has a wealth of information on classic short styles:

If your forehead really is too high to look good with a crew cut or ivy league, you might try a forward brush cut:

Be sure to read the information at the answer linked above and understand the difference between a crew cut and a butch haircut. Then, ask around to find a barber who is good with the short styles. Take a photo of the type of crew cut you would like to help describe it. If the barber does not ask the length/height you want at the front hairline and the type of edge at the nape and ears, or the length of sideburns if any, there might be a problem. With a receding hairline the shaping of the short pomp front in relation to the shape of the front hairline, skull shape and jaw line is critical. The length of the sideburns and height/design of the neck edge, as well as the shape of the ear arch can all play surprisingly large roles in how a short cut appears. Go with a longer crew cut or ivy league at first. You can always go shorter. Also know that it might look great to everyone and they may tell you so, but it might take a little longer for you to get accustomed to it. Don't be afraid to experiment once you have it short. Small changes in style can sometimes make a decided difference, but can be changed back by the next haircut.

Yes, it can look really good. If you're still at school I doubt if your hair is receding, you just have a high forehead. There is a well known entertainer on British T.V.called Ant McPartlin, who has a very high forehead and he has his hair very short with the fringe combed forwards and it looks fine. You can gel it up into a Hoxton Fin, like Ewan McGregor, but this might make it look more receding. Combed forward or even a bit 'Emo', brushed forward and to one side is very fashionable right now.
