No, long hair does NOT cause receding hair lines. ONE THING causes receding hair lines and male pattern baldness -- DHT. DHT is a metabolic variant of Testosterone that causes hair to micronize and causes baldness, including receding hair lines -- which can start anytime from mid teens on -- depending on genetics. Blocking DHT effectively blocks male pattern baldness from occurring. That is what Propecia is all about. (please note that there are other, significantly more uncommon forms of baldness, what we are talking about here is male pattern baldness/receding hairline.)
It has nothing to do with hair length, never did, never will -- although once you are balding, short hair looks better -- in general long hair looks much better (IMHO) -- so if you have baldness in your genetic lines -- particularly your mother's line -- get a DHT blocker, and take it daily -- you will never have to worry.

PS I'm sorry -- I have to say this -- there are times when reading some of the responses leaves me breathless -- for goodness sake people -- when answering a question with a scientifically known answer, at least spend a few minutes doing research so that when you answer you are both correct and responsible. Saying ';Oh yeah, it pulls on the hair'; is not responsible -- you are guessing, and that is what shark oil salesmen of all types have done for centuries. It's easy to actually find out the cause of things these days -- please, when you answer someone, know what you are talking about. Thank you.Does long hair on males cause a receding hairline?
It doesn't cause it, no.
Girls have long hair and they don't suffer from receeding hairline normally.
I think having long hair can make a receeding hairling more obvious - especially if they have dark hair and pale skin. As the wind blows to shows up a flash of white against the dark surrounding hair.
Guys shouldn't have long hair, and if they are old enough to have a recceding hairline - they need to face up to the fact its time for a grown-up hair style.
ya it does the longer the hair in the back the less in the front. least thats what happend to this guy i know.
Yes the weight from the long hair makes the follicles weak in the scalp. Hair tends to ';let go'; a little earlier in life
Testosterone causes male pattern baldness.
no long hair does not cause receding hair line.
your genes do.
Not at all. Women have long hair, you don't see them losing hair because of it.
