I have a sneaking suspicion I may be getting BS'ed here, but I'll throw it over to you guys.
I'm male and I have quite long hair now (past my shoulders). I quite like it the way it is since my head is gigantic and having short hair just highlights this. But some people (it must be noted those who DON'T like my hair) have told me that being male and having long hair is a way to cause early male pattern baldness. So is it purely a genetic thing (no one in my immediate family expect my uncle on my dad's side is bald) or will having long hair cause me to lose it as I get older?Long hair and receding hairline - what causes it?
Having long hair does not cause baldness - PERIOD! Hair loss is either caused by disease, environment, genetics or a combination of these factors. If you are beginning to lose your hair, start on finasteride, minoxidil or a combo to keep the hair that you do have from falling out and staying out.Long hair and receding hairline - what causes it?
Having long hair has nothing to do with baldness. Masturbation, on the other hand, has a huge amount to do with it. Just kidding...baldness is largely genetic, so I wouldn't worry about what the people who dislike your hair are telling you.
I don't know. I had hair well below my shoulders a few years back, and I had really thick hair. I noticed after I got it cut that I had got a receding hairline and that the hair on the top of my head was thinner. No one in my family on either side is bald. I thought it was just my hair going away, but your theory there knda makes sense for my hair receding now.
you get baldness from your MOTHER's side
Long hair will not cause you to go bald, it is all in your genes and whether you develop alopecia areata or not...Don't listen to them, they couldn't be more wrong, they just want tyou to get rid of your long hair.
Good Luck!
having long hair should not make a difference to if your hair falls out

That's a load of crap.
Genetics influence what your hair does or does not do. Some diseases and medical treatments cause hair loss, but male pattern baldness is quite common.
Rogaine works quite well to reverse the process. I'm also told that using a shampoo 'Tresemme' gives good results as well.
If you wore hats all the time you'd have been told that hats cause it. Or if you smoke, you'd bet told that smoking caused it. It's an old wives tale. It's ALL GENETIC.
Go buy some Rogaine at Wal Mart (cheapest there) and follow the instrutions and you'll see results in a couple of months...it will first start growing back fine and will come in and be the color of your existing hair. Trouble is once you start and get hair growth, you have to keep using it or it will eventually return to barren land.
It's a mix between genetics and stress.
The only things that could cause it other than genetics is from you keeping it in a pony tail or wearing caps all the time. When you pull your hair back it tugs at your hairline. When you wear a cap then it keeps your hair from being free and natural so it won't grow as much which causes baldness. I do not think that having it long will cause you to lose it. Just think women all over the world has long hair but you don't see them losing their hair (not majority of them anyways).
no its ok to have a reciding hair line
